Barcelona, June 13, 2023 – Last week, during the International Logistics Show (SIL) held in Barcelona, Azucarera and ROR signed a joint collaboration contract for the coming years, aimed at improving sustainability in sugar transportation and continuing to enhance logistical service for their Distribution clients.

This collaboration allows ROR to position itself as the sole logistics operator for non-bulk sugar transportation for the sugar company throughout the Iberian Peninsula, and enables Azucarera to advance its goals of reducing its carbon footprint. As explained by Javier Bartrina, Logistics Strategy Director at Azucarera, during his presentation following the signing at ROR’s booth, “this collaboration is not a contract; it is a partnership where Azucarera and ROR mutually support each other, adding value not only in service and improvement for our clients but also in accompanying digitalization and the journey towards sustainability in the supply and distribution of transport.”

Ricardo Ortego, CEO of ROR, expressed satisfaction with the work done in recent years by the logistics company, citing the agreement reached with Azucarera as an example, as this collaboration reflects and underscores the path and strategy of the company he leads to support its clients. Digitalization and sustainability are two mutually dependent pillars, as the former leads to the latter. “This collaboration is the result of the work done and the momentum of change in the sector regarding how the mentality of shippers is evolving. We are very confident that all the added value we can offer will materialize to continue working together now and in the future from ROR, providing what we can in visibility, traceability, and continuous improvement thanks to digitalization and, of course, in the decarbonization of our own company and that of Azucarera,” Ortego stated.

Both Azucarera and ROR made it clear that it is now essential to continue working and “strengthening this collaboration,” as pointed out by Javier Bartrina. Azucarera aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% in five years across distribution, transportation, and storage, including sensitive processes such as the sourcing of raw materials and delivery to clients.
